Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet

For thirty years, the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet—an outgrowth of one of the world’s great orchestras, inspired by one of the world’s most heralded conductors—has set the international standard for such ensembles. Established in 1988, the Quintet has been the prolific and peerless voice of their instrumental canon, whether playing Mozart’s compositions for wind quintet and piano alongside Stephen Hough, reinterpreting the music of Leoš Janáček, or taking on new works by the likes of Kalevi Aho.

Nederlands Dans Theater

Having wowed audiences last season at the Kennedy Center, Nederlands Dans Theater is one of the world’s most celebrated dance companies, performing its unique brand of breathtaking dance and passionate creativity. Often described as the “young company,” NDT2 is a tour de force in its own right. Working with superlative choreographic talent, these international dancers aged 18-23 fill the stage with breathtaking exuberance, astonishing athleticism and awe-inspiring skill. The future is here!

36th Annual Choreographers' Showcase

Now entering its 36th edition, the Choreographers’ Showcase has become one of the DC/MD/VA dance community’s most celebrated exhibitions of established and emerging choreographic talent. Established in 1983 by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the Showcase’s featured choreographers now number in the hundreds, and they are teaching and making dance in local communities and on stages across the globe.

UMRO Dances

The University of Maryland Repertoire Orchestra (UMRO) presents beloved symphonic dances across many nationalities, united by the colorful energy of movement and music.

Sphinx Virtuosi: "Music without Borders — Music unites the world when words fail."

As part of one of the world’s most dynamic chamber orchestras, these 18 professional players are among the nation’s acclaimed Black and Latino professional solo instrumentalists and chamber musicians. Music Without Borders, an electrifying and haunting program, features works by Shostakovich, Cassadó, Emmy Award-nominated Syrian-American composer Kareem Roustom and a commission by Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Terence Blanchard.

This multidisciplinary work explores the myriad subtleties of dwelling. What implicit meaning does the word suggest? Internal versus external, shadow against light, our perspective versus what we perceive. Spaces near and far, up and down, seen and unseen.

Faculty Artist Series -- Rita Sloan, piano - Unusual Suspects

This concert features chamber works of unusual configurations: the Mozart Kegelstatt trio and Schubert's Trout Quintet. A master of chamber music, collaborative piano faculty member Rita Sloan is joined by Robert DiLutis, Irina Muresanu, Katherine Murdock, Eric Kutz and Robert Oppelt.

Kurt Weill Festival: The Road of Promise: UMD Symphony Orchestra

The School of Music’s Kurt Weill Festival opens with The Road of Promise. This semi-staged oratorio features the combined forces of the UMD Symphony Orchestra, the Maryland Opera Studio, the UMD Concert Choir and SOM alumni. Adapted from the original 1937 work, The Road of Promise takes the audience through a journey that ends with renewal and hope.
