Statement Regarding the Collection and Use of Personal Information
Collection and Use of Information
When you create an account on theclarice.umd.edu you will share some combination of the following information, depending on the type of transaction you wish to achieve: your first name, last name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address and/or payment information.
Your mailing address is required to purchase tickets, enter a contest or make a contribution. Your phone number will be used to contact you about important updates related to specific performances you have purchased. We also occasionally make customer service calls to inquire about how we are servicing you.
When you provide your email address to The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, we will periodically contact you through email, providing you information about your account, upcoming performances, special offers, e-newsletters, contest opportunities, etc. If you don’t want to receive periodic email notices from The Clarice, a link to unsubscribe from email notices is provided at the bottom of each email message.
The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center will protect any financial information you provide to us. If you purchase tickets or gift certificates online, your credit card is encrypted using current secure communication technologies. Your credit card number will only be used for processing orders. Your order information will be stored on our secure servers, but this information is never shared with third parties. We restrict access to customer financial information for use by authorized employees of The Clarice only.
At certain times, we may collect demographic information via website surveys. This information helps us better understand our customers and is completely optional.
Distribution of Information
In addition to using the personal information you furnish to process requested transactions, The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center may share your name and mailing address with other arts and non-profit organizations through list trades. We do not sell this information: we exchange it for marketing purposes. Phone numbers and e-mail addresses are not shared with third party organizations through list trades. If you do not want your name and address to be traded, you must “opt out.” If you wish to opt out immediately, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We may also share personal information you provide when required by law, an administrative or judicial subpoena or similar order or when we are working with a government agency or company to protect against or prevent actual or potential fraud or unauthorized transactions or to investigate fraud that has already taken place.
