NextNOW Fest is tomorrow, and we’re excited to introduce you to our student curators who helped co-curate the fest this year! UMD students Jacob Wills, Emily Gorey and Hunter Jones worked closely with Megan Pagado Wells, Associate Director of the Artist Partner Program, and the numerous faculty, staff and students who make the fest happen.
UMD TDPS’ Clove opens tomorrow, and today we’re highlighting cast member and sophomore theatre major, Kyle Starling, who tells us about his character, Eli, and his experience preparing for the show.
Eli is main character Sam’s best friend and confides in Sam about his struggles with identity and what it’s like to be a black, gay male in America.
Alumni Spotlight

The University of Maryland School of Music in the College of Arts and Humanities is launching a university-wide competition that invites UMD students to write lyrics to the tune of the state song “Maryland, My Maryland.” The competition asks students to craft lyrics that express the pride they feel for the State of Maryland.

Artists lead complicated lives. They collect material for new work, they often teach and engage with community groups and they are always developing their craft.
In Side Notes, we are providing good reads and fun facts to give you a sense of who our visiting artists are and what makes them do what they do. Contributing writes include students, faculty, staff and alumni from the extended Clarice family.
Please join Bowie State University and the University of Maryland for a Moment of Reflection to honor the life of Second Lt. Richard Collins III. In solidarity and respect, both communities invite you to pause and reflect in silence Wednesday, August 30, 12:05 P.M.
If you would like to observe this moment with other members of The Clarice community, we invite you to gather in reflection at the bottom of the stairs in the Grand Pavilion.
