National Orchestral Institute Open Rehearsal: Teddy Abrams, Conductor

Ever wondered what happens in the rehearsals before the concert?  Here's a unique opportunity to hear the National Orchestral Institute in rehearsal with conductor Teddy Abrams.  We have opened our choir loft seating and stage boxes so you can hear every note!  

As a courtesy to the musicians, please arrive early and be seated prior to the start of the rehearsal.  Late seating to the choir loft and stage boxes will occur during orchestra breaks and at the discretion of the usher.   

National Festival Institute Open Rehearsal: Osmo Vänskä, conductor

Storytime with Daraja Ensemble (OFFSITE)

For their last recital of the 2015-16 season at UMD, Daraja explores the variety of ways short-story, fairytale, or poetry could be incorporated within the wind quintet medium. The first half of the concert is devoted for the two top prizewinners in Daraja’s first ever Composition Competition held in March of 2016, Ray Fields and Eric Pazdziora.

Excelsa Plays Trios (OFF-SITE)

On their final concert of the semester, Excelsa performs a concert of string trios by Schubert, Kodály, Beethoven and Mozart.

Program:

  • Schubert - String Trio in B flat Major, D 471
  • Kodály - Intermezzo for String Trio
  • Beethoven - String Trio No. 3 in G Major, Op. 9, No. 1
  • Mozart - Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, K. 478 (with Dr. Kenneth Slowik, piano)
