UMD Symphony Orchestra Pre-Concert Lecture: Fairies, Folk Songs and Beethoven's Shadow
Mendelssohn was inspired by Shakespeare when he composed A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Ginastera hoped to evoke the soundscape of his native Argentina through Variaciones Concertantes, and Brahms undoubtedly had Beethoven on his mind when he composed his Second Piano Concerto. This lecture explores these compositional influences, and illustrates how they shaped each composer’s music.
