New Music at Maryland Concert

In a concert featuring original works by UMD student composers, young instrumentalists and singers are given the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with composers. This gives them insight into the compositional process and breathes new life into music.

Sonia De Los Santos

Take a musical journey from Latin America to New York City with Sonia De Los Santos! Hailed by Billboard as “one of the Latin Children’s music artists you should know,” Sonia’s family-friendly music reflects on her experiences growing up in Mexico, moving to another country, learning about other cultures, and in the process, feeling closer to her own heritage.

This universal story brings messages of joyful community music-making and cultural bridge-building, sure to inspire and excite children and grown-ups of all backgrounds.

Open Masterclass with Gail Williams: National Orchestral Institute + Festival

Gail Williams is an internationally recognized hornist and brass pedagogue. She was associate principal with the Chicago Symphony from 1984 until her retirement in 1998. For this evening event, she leads a masterclass with musicians from the National Orchestral Institute. Get an insider's view on the training each NOI musician receives during their time at the festival.

Viola Extravaganza

Students of viola professors Katherine Murdock and Daniel Foster perform works by Bach, Bridge, Elgar, Popper, Piazzola and more. 

Guest Artist Chamber Music Recital

For one night only, we turn the spotlight on our guest faculty as they perform an eclectic program of chamber works featuring Jeff Thayer and Jennifer Ross, violins; Stephen Wyrczynski, viola; and Jeffrey Turner, double bass.

Forward Motion Dance Company 2017 Showcase

Forward Motion Dance Company is a student run organization, founded on contemporary dance, committed to the art of self-expression through movement. FMDC provides a place for dancers of all genres to grow, learn and create while strengthening each member's love of dance and diversity. We believe in offering all members the opportunity to choreograph and perform many different styles of dance including contemporary, jazz, hip hop, lyrical and ethnic/ cultural, so that they may explore their unique interests and talents while uniting with other members over a common passion for dance.
