DJ Kid Koala shares an innovative collection of dreamy, atmospheric tracks and invites every audience member to contribute to his fluid stream of sounds through mini turntable stations with color-coded custom vinyl and effects processors provided at each table. The Artist Partner Program brings you the new Speed of Sound Sessions (S.O.S.), a celebration of musicians who support and promote composers whose work was created in the 21st century and who respond to the contemporary world in which we live. Featuring musicians and dancers from the Indonesian Embassy, come experience an evening of traditional Balinese music played on the gamelan, a gong kebyar style percussive instrument. Showcasing complex interlocking rhythms, multifaceted expressions and the delicate motions of Balinese dance.
Gamelan Saraswati takes its name from Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge and the arts.

UMRO's season finale celebrates the summer season and presents guest artist and professor of flute Sarah Frisof.
Experience the vibrant beat of samulnori. This modern incarnation of traditional Korean folk music celebrates harvest time and provides a lively soundtrack to dancing. The ensemble is comprised of four types of percussion instruments—an hourglass drum, a barrel drum, a small gong and a large gong. Each represents a natural element—wind, rain, clouds and lightning.
Under the direction of Sebastian Wang, the concert is performed by the UMD Korean Percussion Ensemble, alongside a small core of professional musicians, exhibiting some of the great samulnori repertoire.
The combined forces of the UMD Symphony Orchestra and the UMD Wind Orchestra perform a collaborative conductors' concert led by faculty and members of the graduate conducting studios.

A graduate student-led contemporary music ensemble focused on cultivating new music experiences in the community. Presenting music so fresh that the ink is often literally wet on the pages, TEMPO often collaborates with composers to present the music of now. The group has a special emphasis on experiences outside the standard concert hall.
