Wavelength Winds & Konshens the MC

Classically Dope is a musical collaboration between DC-based rapper Konshens the MC, his band, and wind quintet Wavelength Winds. This fusion of hip-hop and classical music bridges the gap between these two performing worlds. The collaboration began in 2016 with the 2015-2017 School of Music Fellowship Wind Quintet, Daraja Ensemble, and continues now with Wavelength Winds.

Hip-Hop Orchestra

UMD’s very own Hip-Hop Orchestra started as two friends performing on the tables of the University of Maryland’s very own dining hall. Now, with myriad performances under their belts, including two at The Kennedy, HHO takes the Grand Pavilion Stage to kick-off the 2018 NextNOW Fest.

Silent Disc-Glo

It’s a dance party, but with a twist! Armed with a set of wireless headphones, listen to one of two live DJs, both playing totally different musical styles. This silent dance party is surreal, bizarre, and outrageously fun! Headset pickup begins at 8:30PM.

Please Note: There will be a bag check at the entrance to The Clarice. To make the process go more smoothly, we encourage that attendees leave backpacks and large purses at home.

For the Students Tour

Join us for a conversation between music journalist Ogden Payne and Kei Henderson, manager of multi-platinum recording artist 21 Savage and founder and CEO of the Motown/Capitol Records-backed boutique record label, management and publishing company, SinceThe80s. Prior to her current roles, Henderson worked alongside the product development team at Complex Media, focusing on social media marketing and branded content.

Den-Mate

The intimate music of Den-Mate—the project from DC-based songwriter/producer Jules Hale—is arresting, like peering into a funhouse mirror. Her sparse, dreamy songs reflect and distort private nighttime thoughts of desperation and isolation, transforming abstract fears into throbbing bass lines and static-washed riffs. Drawing a bridge from haunting pop and the exciting world of progressive electronica, Den-Mate brings a new style for adventurous listeners.

Early Eyes

Hailing from Minneapolis, Early Eyes formed in 2016 as a temporary pop-up ensemble, garnering a sizable local following almost instantly. Drawing from all sorts of musical backgrounds, their songwriting abilities were worthy of winning The National Endowment of The Arts Songwriting Challenge.
