2017 National Orchestral Institute and Festival
For decades, the National Orchestral Institute (NOI) has nurtured the development of America’s most gifted young orchestral musicians. Begun in 1988 at the University of Maryland, the Institute selects its members through a rigorous cross-county audition tour and pairs them with an international cast of conductors and faculty mentors. Institute members perform at The Clarice and throughout the community in a series of engaging concerts at schools, community centers and retirement communities. In 2015, NOI launched an annual partnership with the internationally renowned classical music label Naxos to record one concert of all-American music per year – a first between Naxos and a student-based summer music festival. Festival events like open rehearsals, pre- and post-concert experiences in our SPARK! Lounge, interactive OCTAVA program notes, and our family-friendly performances are curated to give audiences access to the artistic process.
