AMERICAN MASTERWORKS

David Alan Miller, known for his compelling interpretations of American music, returns to NOI to lead this concert and our third recording project for Naxos. Ablaze with brass and percussion, the concert opens with Carl Ruggles' assertively colorful work for orchestra, Sun-Treader. Steven Stucky's Pulitzer Prize-winning Second Concerto for Orchestra and John Harbison's Fourth Symphony complete the program.
 
 
 

MAHLER’S FOURTH

A frequent guest of the National Orchestral Institute + Festival, Asher Fisch returns to lead Bartók's tempestuous ballet score to The Miraculous Mandarin and Mahler's Fourth Symphony. Joining us from Wolf Trap Opera is soprano Madison Leonard in the heavenly finale to the Mahler symphony.
 
 
 

SIMONE DINNERSTEIN AND THE HAVANA LYCEUM ORCHESTRA

In this remarkable cross-cultural concert, renowned American pianist Simone Dinnerstein and the Havana Lyceum Orchestra culminate a 3-day residency at the National Orchestral Institute + Festival. These young orchestral stars from Cuba perform music from their US tour before joining with NOI musicians for the second half of the concert.

Manuel Lopez-Gomez is one of the most exciting talents to emerge from Venezuela’s internationally renowned music program, “El Sistema.” He leads the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic in the festival's finale concert featuring longtime NOI faculty artist and internationally renowned cellist, Robert deMaine, in Elgar's Cello Concerto.
