Forrobodo: For All Brazilian Dance Party

Dance to the highly infectious rhythm of Brazil’s popular forró music! Accompanied by a full band of percussion, drums, guitar, cavaco, bass and accordion, the performers will teach you the basic steps – no experience necessary. 

This project is a collaboration between Pablo Regis and UMD alumni Kate Spanos and Ceylon Mitchell II.

Family Art Day at Langley Park Community Center

Artful fun for the whole family! Join in for crafting, lunch and a salsa dance class led by the Maryland Latin Dance Club. Quinteto Latino, a group that blends the vibrant colors and vigorous rhythms of Latin American music with the voices of the wind quintet, will perform salsa, new twists on traditional folk songs and more.

Music in Mind: 12 Strings and 88 Keys

This program will feature one of Brahms’ most emotionally charged masterpieces, the Piano Quartet in C-Minor Op. 60, alongside the beloved Mozart Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, KV493 and the Andalusian folk-infused Piano Quartet in A-Minor, Op. 67 by Joaquin Turina.

Margaret Leng Tan, piano

Margaret Leng Tan has established herself as a major force within the American avant-garde. Tan, whose work embraces theatre, choreography, performance, has been called “the diva of avant-garde pianism” by The New Yorker. She is renowned as a pre-eminent John Cage interpreter (her mentor of eleven years) and for her performances of American and Asian music that transcend the piano’s conventional boundaries. She has been hailed as “the queen of the toy piano” (The New York Times) and “the toy piano’s Rubenstein” (The Independent, UK).

Standing at the intersection of tonality, modality and serialism, Henri Dutilleux (1916–2013) came of age in France during the Second World War. He absorbed and mastered all the dominant strands of European musical tradition and was likely the greatest living composer in his later life.
