UMD Summer Chorus: Fauré's Requiem

UMD's Summer Chorus presents Fauré's contemplative Requiem. Filled with delicate textures and subtle harmonies, Fauré's masterpiece is simple and inspirational music that is quintessentially French. Rounding out this performance is Beethoven's Choral Fantasy for chorus, orchestra, vocal soloists, and solo piano. Through its juxtaposition of themes from his lied Gegenliebe and the Emperor concerto, the Choral Fantasy takes listeners through a fascinating journey that foreshadows Beethoven's grand Symphony No. 9.

Masterful Strings: Masterclass with Hai-Ye Ni

School of Music cello students refine their repertoire with feedback from Philadelphia Orchestra Principal Cellist Hai-Ye Ni. 

Presented by the School of Music, Masterful Strings is a lively series of masterclasses and discussions that feature renowned string artists sharing their expertise in string pedagogy and performance.

Masterful Strings is funded in part by The Tretter Distinguished Faculty Fellowship in Violin and the Barbara K. Steppel Memorial Faculty Fellowship in Cello. 

Shostakovich Symphony No. 6

Shostakovich's misunderstood and difficult Symphony No. 6 is paired with Berlioz's picturesque song cycle Les nuits d'été.  UMRO is joined by UMD voice professor, soprano Carmen Balthrop.  UMRO will also perform Samuel Adler's Summer Stock in celebration of the composer's 90th birthday.

UMD Wind Ensemble Spring Concert

The UMD Wind Ensemble introduces audiences to new works for wind band, and continues its tradition of performing some of the most respected works in the repertoire.

University & Community Band Concert

The University Band and Community Band share an evening of traditional and contemporary wind band music.

Conducted by UMD alumnus Bill Sturgis and UMD Assistant Director of Bands Eli R.Osterloh, this concert will be an exciting evening for the whole family! Children and adults who are thinking of starting to play an instrument are sure to be inspired.

Spring Chamber Jazz

Swing with the UMD jazz combos as they play both brand-new selections arranged by UMD jazz students and beloved standards. Attend both nights — each performance features a different program.

Chamber Music Showcase

School of Music student-artists perform a moving collection of chamber music repertoire for strings,woodwinds, brass and piano. The culmination of rehearsal and coaching during the spring semester, this concert is an integral part of coursework for UMD School of Music students and provides a glimpse into the training they receive for performing in major ensembles.
