The culmination of the School of Music’s Wind Conducting Workshop, this concert will feature guest conductor H. Robert Reynolds of the Thornton Wind Ensemble and Director of Bands Emeritus at the University of Michigan. Also featuring School of Music faculty conductors Michael Votta, Jr., and Andrea Brown, the program will include Darius Milhaud’s La Création du Monde, Antonín Dvořák’s Serenade in D minor, Op. 44, Morten Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium and Aaron Copland’s Emblems.

Ensemble Dal Niente reads new works by School of Music student composers.
2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment. To honor this occasion the UMD Symphony Orchestra will perform a world premiere of Maria Newman's Our Rights, and Nothing Less written in honor of Susan B. Anthony's 200th birthday and featuring Voice Professor Carmen Balthrop in the role of speaker.

Blurring the boundaries between the human and animal experience, The Cunning Little Vixen follows the story of a sharp, young, female fox (a vixen) and the gamekeeper who tries to control her. Inspired by a comic strip, this Czech opera by Leoš Janáček explores the ways in which human beings interact with the natural world while hinting at the underlying forces that govern us all.
