Inspired! Jim Henson at Maryland

This exhibit provides a window into the profound impact Jim Henson’s experiences on campus, both in the classroom and in his extra-curricular activities, had on his creative and professional development, laying the foundation for a remarkable career that included the creation of the Muppets and beyond! Featured here are 25 pieces of original art created by Jim Henson (1936-1990), theatrical programs and ephemera, photographs and an interactive digital archive of Henson’s sketchbooks, student projects and press clippings.

Alumni Music Commission by Asha Srinivasan

This year's NextNOW Fest Alumni Music Commission will showcase the works of Indian-American composer Asha Srinivasan (DMA '08). The program will be performed by Inscape Chamber Orchestra. Srinivasan is Associate Professor of Music (Theory/Composition/Electronic Music) at Lawrence University. Her works have been recorded by Ablaze Records, Mark Records, Beauport Classical and SEAMUS CD Series. Her composition Dviraag was recognized as winner of the Flute New Music Consortium competition in 2015 and the Ruam Samai award at the Thailand International Composition Festival in 2011.

The Terrapin Record Label will present live performances by UMD and local artists! Enjoy intermezzos by University of Maryland’s talented improv group Erasable Inc. between performances on Friday.

J Pope and the HearNow

J Pope and the HearNow hope that their music will do two things for you: (1) Improve your day, and (2) refresh your perspective about the lives we all live and the spaces we share. This 60-minute set features a musical exploration into the deepest pockets of soul and Hip-Hop, lined with the dirty sonic lint of funk, as well as the sudden, sometimes unexpected twists of bebop and funk fusion.

Bach Cantata Series: BWV 248 IV

J.S. Bach, known as the great master, wrote more than 200 cantatas, and UMD Choral Activities aims to sing them all in this series of short performances by students, faculty, staff and community friends led by conductors in the graduate program. Conducted by Tim Keeler, this performance will feature Fallt mit Danken, fallt mit Loben (Fall with thanks, fall with praise), BWV 248 IV. This event will take place during the voice division's noon recital slot and may also include additional voice performances.
