NextNOW WinterFest: Gamer Symphony Orchestra

UMD’s popular Gamer Symphony Orchestra hosts a game night and arrangers' workshop! Play Jackbox games with fellow attendees, then watch as GSO members take you through the process of arranging video game music for orchestra and choir by ear. Maryland Filmmakers will be showcasing a selection of entirely student-made films! Come check out the amazing local talent, and be sure to stay for the Q&A sessions after each screening to hear from the creators about the production process, and how you can get involved in filmmaking!

NextNOW WinterFest: Art Carnival with AIGA UMD & Paint and Shells

Come one and come all— are hosting an art carnival! Flex your art knowledge with trivia, learn alongside a drawing demo, compete in a design challenge and even channel your inner Bob Ross! At this art carnival, you can choose your own adventure, and there’s something for everyone. 

Artist Talk & 2021-22 Season Preview: The Living Earth Show, Sarah Hennies & Terry Berlier

Throughout the Spring 2021 semester, visiting artists Andy Meyerson and Travis Andrews of The Living Earth Show, composer Sarah Hennies and sculptor Terry Berlier will work with University of Maryland students to create sound and sculptural elements to be integrated into The Clarice’s commission for 2021-22 A Kind of Ache. Preview this open-source artmaking collaboration and learn more about their special creative process that weaves music, sculpture and LGBTQ+ topics into one artistic experience. 

Artist Talk & 2021-22 Season Preview: Far From The Norm

Award winning choreographer and Far From The Norm artistic director Botis Seva discusses the relevance and importance of his Olivier award-winning production BLKDOG. This hip-hop dance theatre work will be presented at The Clarice in the 2021-22 season and delves into cultural coping mechanisms that marginalized young Black British people adopt when responding to social injustice.

Artist Talk: Xênia França, Vox Sambou & Catalina Maria Johnson

Brazilian singer Xênia França and Haitian hip-hop artist Vox Sambou have taken vastly different paths with their musical careers throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In this unique interview, also featuring renowned radio host, cultural journalist and music curator Catalina Maria Johnson, the two singer-songwriters share their triumphs, challenges and the deep impact of social isolation as artists on the brink of international stardom.

Arts Citizenship Talk (ACTnow): Revelations by Black Women in the Arts–Theater

From themes of racial violence and cultural appropriation to multiculturalism and gender equality, the work of The Clarice's 2020-21 artists is complex, provocative and deeply sensitive.
