A celebration of CASL founder Dick Brecht’s storied career and lifelong commitment to improving America’s foreign language capacities, Dr. Brecht’s last lecture will feature his parting thoughts on life, career, U.S. language policy, and the future of language education and research on the occasion of his retirement.
UMD Dynamic Dance Team, a hip hop team on campus, will host teams from all over the East Coast to compete for the grand prize and bragging rights as the hottest dance team on the East Coast!
The show will be judged by well-known choreographers and dancers that have originated in the area and have moved on to do great things in the industry.

Karen Kohn Bradley dances to her own tune, and it seems to be attracting all kinds of attention.
Donald Manildi, Curator of the International Piano Archives at Maryland, explore the world of pianos and piano music in a program to be announced.
Produced by UMD faculty artist David Salness in association with PostClassical Ensemble, this concert includes readings from Longfellow’s The Song of Hiawatha and Dvořák’s personal letters from Iowa.
Together, these documents illustrate how Dvořák’s Sonatina incorporates a portrait of Hiawatha’s wife Minnehaha and how his American String Quartet is an elegiac evocation of the Iowa prairie. Joseph Horowitz will provide commentary.
November 27, 2012 – College Park, MD – Dance Exchange delves into the dance-making experience on December 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. in Straight to the Source. In this special two-part event, Dance Exchange Artistic Director Cassie Meador and Resident Artist Sarah Levitt will collaborate with participants to create movement, text and song drawn from personal stories, current events and physical explorations.
