2017-18 Arts & Humanities Dean's Lecture Series

Hate and bias are persistent global problems. What does it look like to engage in courageous conversations that speak to these difficult realities across personal, political, and historical frames? This year’s College Arts and Humanities (ARHU) Dean’s Lecture Series (DLS) is an opportunity for the campus to join together for provocative conversations about these issues across disciplines.

Join ARHU for the third lecture in this series focused on 'The Political' with award-winning journalist and NPR political correspondent, Mara Liasson (@MaraLiasson).

This program features two very different but equally epic symphonies, including Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 3. The first half of the program features composer Johan de Meij's dramatic and colorful Symphony No. 1 inspired by The Lord of the Rings books by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Operaterps Performance

OperaTerps is the University of Maryland's first student run opera company, providing undergraduate musicians the opportunity to take part in a major musical undertaking while enriching cultural life on campus and in the College Park community.

This season, we are producing Gilbert and Sullivan's one-act gem, "Trial by Jury”, and Georg Philipp Telemann’s rarely performed comic story in the Italian and French baroque styles, “Don Quichotte”, as a historically informed performance with strings and harpsichord!
