Masterful Strings: Pamela Frank, violin and Stephen Prutsman, piano

American violinist and international soloist, Pamela Frank and critically acclaimed pianist, composer and conductor, Stephen Prutsman will perform a recital of duo music. Presenting beloved classics alongside new works, repertoire will include Brahms’ G Major Violin Sonata, Bach’s E Major Sonata for Violin with keyboard obbligato and works by Leoš Janáček.

2019 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella

Varsity Vocals presents the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. In this Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinal, 10 a cappella groups from local colleges and universities will compete for a chance to prove they are one of the top collegiate a cappella groups in the world. The top two groups from the event move on to the regional Mid-Atlantic Semifinal. The winner of each regional Semifinal will go on to compete at the Finals in New York City.

At the Feet of the Master: Eugène Ysaÿe

Experience all of the Six Solo Sonatas for Violin (1923) by Eugène Ysaÿe performed by graduate and undergraduate students as part of a total-immersion, semester learning project. Students will share the story of their direct lineage to the Belgian master and explain how he entirely revolutionized the craft and the art. Then they will play, tag-team style, this daring magnum opus—the most challenging in the genre since J.S. Bach’s model 200 years earlier.
