Semesterly chamber music recitals showcase students' creativity, initiative, collaboration and agency through the unique medium of chamber music. This recital will feature a broad range of styles and repertoire presented in a fresh, lively way.

Sebastian Wang, music director

Experience the vibrant beat of samulnori under the direction of Sebastian Wang. This modern incarnation of traditional Korean folk music celebrates harvest time and provides a lively soundtrack to dancing. The ensemble is comprised of four types of percussion instruments—an hourglass drum, a barrel drum, a small gong and a large gong—each representing a natural element: rain, clouds, lightning and wind, respectively.

Fall Piano Division Showcase

Orchestra Concerto Competition Finals

Join the search for the UMD Symphony Orchestra’s next featured soloist! UMD School of Music students perform concerto excerpts or concert pieces for an independent jury panel and a winner and runners-up are announced.

Maryland Gospel Choir Concert

Since its founding in 1975, hundreds of voices have joined together to share joyous music through UMD’s very own gospel choir. Committed to encouraging fellowship and community service, this group is composed of gospel music lovers across campus.

Bach Cantata Series: UMD Choral Activities

ABOUT THE EVENT

J.S. Bach, known as the great master, wrote more than 200 cantatas, and UMD Choral Activities aims to sing them all in this series of short performances led by conductors in the graduate program. Conducted by a graduate student from the choral conducting program, this performance will feature a Bach Cantata that will be announced closer to the concert.

Orchestra Concerto Competition Prelims

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Join the search for the UMD Symphony Orchestra’s next featured soloist. In the first round of this exciting competition, UMD School of Music students perform concerto excerpts or concert pieces for an independent jury panel. With each round of the competition, the field narrows until the final round, when a winner and runners-up are announced.
