UMD School of Music bassoon students refine their repertoire in a coaching with Rice University bassoon professor Benjamin Kamins.
Benjamin Kamins is the former Associate Principal Bassoon with the Minnesota Orchestra, and the former Principal Bassoon of the Houston Symphony. As a chamber musician, Kamins is a founding member of the Epicurean Wind Quintet and the Houston Symphony Chamber Players. Learn more about Kamins here.

Hear from several regionally-based artists about how they’ve experimented with multiple forms of audience engagement to inform their creative process. Panelists include Margot Greenlee, director, BodyWise Dance; Scott Patterson, artistic director of AfroHouse; and Jason Schlafstein, co-founder and producing artistic director of Flying V.
Join us for a conversation with award-winning, internationally touring performers Kekuhi, her transgender daughter Kaumakaiwa Kanaka‘ole, and guitarist Shawn Pimental. Experience a traditional Hawaiian welcome chant and intimate discussion focused on maintaining native identities and a sense of community away from the ancestral home. Varsity Vocals is the home of student a cappella since 1995. We give college and high school singers the opportunity to interact, compete, learn from each other, get feedback from the pros, and perform in fantastic venues around the globe. Each season, the ICCA & ICHSA bring together nearly 500 a cappella groups and thousands of singers from schools around the globe. The ICCA Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinal at Dekelboum Concert Hall is one of 5 Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinal Events. The top two groups from this event will go on to compete in the ICCA Mid-Atlantic Semifinal.

Members of the UMD Symphony Orchestra are led by their graduate colleagues in varied repertoire in the culminating event for James Ross's graduate conducting studio. Featured works are Samuel Barber's Piano Concerto with the 2nd prize winner of the 2015 Concerto Competition, Sarah Barham, and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4.
