UMD Chamber Singers Welcome Home Concert

The highly acclaimed UMD Chamber Singers celebrate their return from Seoul, South Korea, where they were one of only 20 choirs from around the world chosen to perform at the 10th World Symposium on Choral Music.

The program includes works by Britten, Bruckner, Purcell and Poulenc, plus traditional American spirituals.

Late Night ARTS EXPLOSION

A festival within a festival. Delta Chi Xi, UMD’s Honorary Dance Fraternity, presents a selection of student arts groups.

A 100 percent student-curated and student-performed arts experience, this Late-night ARTS EXPLOSION will feature Kreativity Diversity Troupe's interactive movement theatre workshop followed by a house dance fundamentals workshop taught by Jonathan Hsu.

From performance games to voice and movement-based exercises, be prepared to laugh, sing, dance, yell and kreate with Kreativity!

Amkoullel

The importance of artistic voice is built into the very fiber of Malian society and it is no surprise that the resonating voices of hip-hop and rap have found their place for NextNOW artists and audiences.

Creating his own color and style of Malian hip hop from the Manding musical culture, Amkoullel became one of the first artists to speak to and on behalf of the youth of the country, calling them to unite and stand up.

NextDANCE

NextDANCE features UMD’s finest choreographers: faculty, students and alumni, culminating in the world premiere of GROOVE, by Stephanie Miracle.

A rock-’n’-roll, high-energy dance-theatre happening exploring groove and free style party dancing as a transcultural experience, the work catapults off of the universality of pop and rock music and lands on the unique, idiosyncratic ways individuals physically express themselves.

They made their performance debut in New York City’s Union Square metro station, and their YouTube video went viral because you can’t resist this 20-somethings funky trio of trumpet, baritone saxophone and drums. Subway buskers whose beats and newly created musical style they call “brass house” are moving forward the mainstream pop-music formula.
