Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra (MCYO) presents the finest young string musicians in the region in a luminescent performance, with music by Tchaikovsky, Elgar and Mendelssohn.
Featuring 3 string orchestras: Preparatory Strings, Chamber Strings and Chamber Ensemble.
Sakura Taiko Fest 2017
The Sakura Taiko Fest showcases a lively and dynamic lineup of Japanese-American drumming groups from up and down the east coast. It celebrates and explores Japanese cultural and artistic traditions and engages audiences with high energy rhythm and movement. In past years artists have covered popular traditional songs and also debuted fresh modern arrangements. Guests will also have the opportunity to try taiko for themselves.
Kujenga Daraja – The Art of Collaboration
Daraja concludes its tenure at the University of Maryland with a concert that maintains the purpose the ensemble set out to achieve: to build bridges between many different, inspiring people. This concert builds on their previous “Breakout” concert and predominately features unique and exciting collaborations. Daraja is extremely fortunate to share the stage with Professor Rita Sloan to perform Ludwig Thuille’s Sextet for Piano and Winds op.6 and Jean Francaix’s cheeky and charming work, L’ Heure du Berger. Public transportation alert! College Park Metro closed April 15-29
As part of WMATA's SafeTrack Surge #14, College Park Metro Station will be completely closed from Saturday, April 15 through Saturday, April 29, 2017. During this time, WMATA will operate free shuttles to the College Park Metro Station from Prince George's Plaza and Greenbelt, and UMD will continue to operate UM-Shuttle 104 from College Park Metro to the university, allowing you to follow our standard public transportation directions.

Matthew Halls Residency: Bach Cantata
Oregon Bach Festival Artistic Director Matthew Halls leads J.S. Bach's intimate cantata 204 from the keyboard as part of his weeklong UMD School of Music residency. Featuring UMD Choral Activities alumna Amy Broadbent as soprano soloist, this underperformed secular cantata brings to life contemplative Christian Friedrich Hunold texts about inner contentment and serenity through varied instrumental combinations with voice.
