The International Championship of A Cappella Open is an all-access a cappella tournament that encourages singers to bring together groups of any age, experience or origin to form a cappella “dream teams” and compete for the chance to perform at Carnegie Hall for a cash prize of $25,000.
This summer, renowned conductor of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra John Morris Russell, kicks off 2017 National Orchestral Institute + Festival season! Known for his boundless enthusiasm for music of all kinds, and consistently praised for his visionary leadership, Russell leads a program of pops favorites from the worlds of opera, theater and Broadway.
For 30 years, the National Orchestral Institute + Festival has been a training ground for orchestral musicians on the precipice of their professional careers. NOI alumni occupy positions in nearly every major American orchestra as well as numerous positions in premiere service bands. Many others are teachers, college professors and arts administrators.
Lincolnshire Posy, the iconoclast composer Percy Grainger's seminal work for winds, is a suite of what the composer termed "musical wildflowers," his own unorthodox arrangement of folk tunes collected from rural English singers. Later, Jules Strens' Danse Funambulesque gives a musical depiction of the death-defying feats of a high-wire artist.
