Faculty Artist Series: Left Bank Quartet -- Vocal Connections

The Left Bank Quartet presents works linked by their connection to the human voice. Schubert's tuneful lyricism is paired with an emotional new work by Mark Wilson, and Samuel Barber's "Dover Beach," for string quartet and baritone.

Company Wang Ramirez: Borderline

Returning to The Clarice after their sold-out performance in 2017, Sébastien Ramirez and Honji Wang’s expanded choreographic language explores the tension of physical forces and social boundaries that reflect the reality of being tethered together in complex communities. Attached to cables, yet with great fluidity, five virtuosic dancers thwart gravity through hip-hop, acrobatics, levitation and stunning visual poetry. 

Wind Band Halloween Haunt

Spend Halloween with the University Band and the Maryland Community Band as we "trick-or-treat" with haunting classics, spooky favorites, and a Las Vegas-eating Godzilla (you read that right). Come scream with us! 

TEMPO

This graduate student-led contemporary music ensemble focuses on cultivating new music experiences in the community both within and outside of the standard concert hall. Presenting music so fresh that the ink is often literally wet on the pages, TEMPO collaborates with composers to present the music of now.

Big Band Halloween Scream

Swing into the spirit of Halloween with this audience favorite signature concert! It’s an entertaining evening with screaming saxophones, wailing trumpets and more. Featuring the UMD Jazz Ensemble, UMD Jazz Lab Band and University Jazz Band.

Richard Goode

The Washington Post calls Richard Goode one of the finest pianists in the world for his expert technique, interpretive insight and emotional commitment. Acknowledged  as one of today’s leading interpreters of Classical and Romantic music, Goode is a frequent recitalist in the world’s musical capitals and with leading orchestras including The Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, among others.

Stew and the Negro Problem: Notes of a Native Song

Tony and Obie Award-winning writer and composer Stew delves into the rich legacy of activist writer James Baldwin in this new music and theater experience alongside long-time collaborator and co-composer Heidi Rodewald and an all-star band. Stew’s uniquely incisive lyrics are wrapped in an irresistible mix of rock, rhythm and blues, and jazz in this powerful homage to the inspiring writer, who famously confronted issues of gender, race, and class distinction with wisdom and fire.

Bernstein and Beyond: UMD Wind Ensemble

Under the leadership of newly appointed Associate Director of Bands Andrea Brown, the University of Maryland Wind Ensemble (UMWE) serves as a training ground for talented young wind players. With a focus on student performers, UMWE presents an exciting season of the best traditional and contemporary wind ensemble literature.
