Forward Motion Dance Company is a student run company founded on the foundations of contemporary dance. This dance company focuses on artistry, expression, and emotion. They work all year long to put on a showcase in the spring for friends and family.
Franz Liszt, a pivotal figure of 19th-century Romanticism, often took inspiration for his piano works from events in his own life. Many of these compositions are program music—pieces with extra-musical associations. In this lecture-recital, Dr. James Litzelman will give background and historical context for the pieces, as well as show images and videos that correspond to the music. Works to be performed include Funérailles, Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude and the two St. Francis Legends.
The Muses proudly present their Original Works Projects, a memorable night of short plays created and produced by students.
Somewhere in America, an army of pre-teen competitive dancers plots to take over the world. And if their new routine is good enough, they’ll claw their way to the top at the Boogie Down Grand Prix in Tampa Bay. But in Clare Barron’s raucous pageant of ambition and ferocity, these young dancers have more than choreography on their minds, because every plié and jeté is a step toward finding themselves, and a fight to unleash their power.
In this collaborative concert, School of Music students will play alongside the Saint-Omer Wind Orchestra from Northern France. This performance is part of an exchange program between Saint-Omer and the State of Maryland to celebrate 300 years of French-American history and culture.
As part of the "Year of Immigration" series, the University of Maryland is proud to present the screening of "THE UNAFRAID," a feature length documentary that follows the personal lives of three DACA students in Georgia, a state that has banned them from attending their top state universities and disqualifies them from receiving in-state tuition at any other public college.
