Since its founding in 1975, hundreds of voices have joined together to share joyous music through UMD’s very own gospel choir. Committed to encouraging fellowship and community service, this group is composed of gospel music lovers across campus.

Bach Cantata Series: UMD Choral Activities

ABOUT THE EVENT

J.S. Bach, known as the great master, wrote more than 200 cantatas, and UMD Choral Activities aims to sing them all in this series of short performances led by conductors in the graduate program. This performance will feature Bereite die Wege, bereite die Bahn (Prepare the paths, prepare the road), BWV 132, which reflects the testimony of John the Baptist.

Orchestra Concerto Competition Prelims

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Join the search for the UMD Symphony Orchestra’s next featured soloist. In the first round of this exciting competition, UMD School of Music students perform concerto excerpts or concert pieces for an independent jury panel. With each round of the competition, the field narrows until the final round, when a winner and runners-up are announced.

Swing into an evening of jazz! You won’t want to miss three of the UMD School of Music's exemplary jazz ensembles in a performance celebrating works from across the genre, including innovative interpretations of classic and contemporary pieces. For this concert, the UMD Jazz Ensembles are joined by Keyon Harrold, a genre-defying artist hailed as "the future of the trumpet" by Downbeat Magazine.

University & Community Band Concert

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

Representing a variety of majors across campus, the University Band is joined by the Maryland Community Band for a concert of traditional and contemporary wind band music in a performance perfect for all ages.
