NextNOW Fest: Charlotte Richardson-Deppe: I Resist This

ABOUT THE EVENT

How can we balance our need for community with our desire for autonomy? In I Resist This, performers interface with squishy, body-like soft sculptures to explore the inherent tension between independence and interdependence. Invoking the movement language of children's games through weightsharing and improvisation, I Resist This activates this human dilemma in a striking and colorful performance.

NextNOW Fest: 72-Hour Composition Challenge

ABOUT THE EVENT

The 72-hour Composition Challenge features new work by students in the UMD School of Music. Composers who wish to participate have 36 hours to write a piece and another 36 hours to rehearse the music with the performers before it is premiered in concert as part of the NextNOW Fest.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Dewey Crumpler: Life Studies is Crumpler's first solo show at The Driskell Center. Dewey Crumpler's current work examines issues of globalization/ cultural co-modification through the integration of digital imagery, video and traditional painting techniques.

NextNOW Fest: Maryland Manzar Southie Dance Workshop

ABOUT THE EVENT

Christina Perumattathil will be teaching a southie/kuthu style dance piece while representing Maryland Manzar 2.0, a South Asian fusion dance team trying to showcase cultural richness of South Asia through innovative choreography and storytelling.

NextNOW Fest: Silent Disc-Glo

ABOUT THE EVENT

An ongoing partnership with Student Entertainment Events (SEE), the Silent Disc-Glo is a dance party, but with a twist! Through a set of wireless headphones, listen to one of three live DJs (including one from Terrapin Record Label!), all playing totally different musical styles. This silent dance party is surreal, bizarre and outrageously fun.

No entry will be permitted after 11:30PM.
