The Experimental Performance Series presents new work by the following students in the UMD School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies.
Gerson Noe Lanza Ruiz: "Get on your Good Foot"
"Get on your Good Foot" is an excerpt that sheds light on the life story of Mr. Lanza's journey to the United States. His journey is an assimilation to cultural and language adversities he faced as a young LatinX immigrant. Lanza's refuge in the rhythm and movement he found in tap dance is a spoiler that reveals his identity as a dance maker and scholar.
Roxanne "Roxy" King: "Keep on Swingin'"
A personal reflection on Roxanne “Roxy” King’s childhood and the inspirations that sparked joy within the art form of tap. Keep on Swingin’ dives into Roxy’s inner world through spoken word, dance, and media inspired by her life between kindergarten to fourth grade. This piece invites the audience to feel, participate, and reflect on harsh realities of young black girls having to grow up too fast.
