GUEST SPEAKERS:

Denise Carlos, Las Cafeteras

In partnership with the Coalition of Latino Student Organizations, Nyumburu Cultural Center and the UMD Office of Diversity & Inclusion

“Yo no vengo a disculparme, mujer soy y lo seré…” Let’s face it, the personal is political, and identifying as a woman of color often means navigating a world of silence and lack of powerful spaces. Join Denise Carlos, MSW, of Las Cafeteras in an interactive dialogue focused on breaking down social and cultural influences on female identity, perceptions of gender, privilege and power, and reclaiming the diversity of women’s experiences. Through activities centered around storytelling, self-care, and sisterhood we will reinterpret our her-story and its place in building healthy communities.

From toxic masculinity to cultural appropriation to multiculturalism, The Clarice’s 2019-20 visiting artists are complex, provocative and deeply sensitive. Arts Citizenship Talks (ACTnow) are opportunities for audiences to hear from these artists on activism around the issues reflected in their work. They are an invitation to act now!

PUBLIC PERFORMANCE: FRI, APR 10 . 8PM • MILKBOY ARTHOUSE
