37th Annual Choreographers’ Showcase (USA)
A highly anticipated tradition of The Clarice and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the Choreographers’ Showcase has become one of the D.C./MD/VA dance community’s most celebrated exhibitions of established and emerging choreographic talent. Experience the thrill of rising choreographic talent, which in years past has included award-winning NY2 Dance choreographer Nejla Yatkin and recent D.C. mainstay Ed Tyler.
Called “a rite of passage in the Washington area dance community” and “a milepost for many dance artists who put down roots” by The Washington Post, this tradition puts experienced choreographers and audacious upstarts on equal footing in front of a panel of impartial judges. The jury provides feedback for every choreographer who auditions (a roster that has expanded in recent years from only modern dance to include the likes of ballet and aerial dance) with an eye toward ultimate stage readiness. Those who have showcased here have not only worked to build a thriving dance community in the area but have gone on to do so around the world, both choreographing and dancing.
