Artistic Operations Assistant

Description

Artistic Operations Assistants provide organizational and operational support for artists presented by the Artistic Programming department at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. This position works closely with the Artist Services team and Clarice administration to assist with the daily functions of artist residencies, rehearsals, engagement events, performances, and festivals. This is a full-time position that will run from September 1, 2024 - May 23, 2025.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Artist Services team, Artistic Operations Assistants support various artists from around the world, ranging from contemporary bands, chamber groups, world music performers, soloists, and dance and theater companies. Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting up and taking down dressing rooms and green rooms
  • Providing transportation and meals for artists
  • Handling artist merchandise
  • Providing communication between The Clarice and the artists
  • Communicating and coordinating with hotels, food vendors, and other businesses
  • Organizing inventory of artist services supplies
  • Interpreting and executing policies of The Clarice and the University of Maryland

Artistic Operations Assistants must embody a professional demeanor focused on providing high-level customer service by anticipating and attending to the needs of visiting artists in a welcoming manner.

Although the schedule and number of hours per week may vary, we are seeking individuals with 10-15 hours of availability each week, especially during nights and weekends.

Requirements

Excellent customer service, organizational and administrative skills, and capability to multi-task is required. Candidates must be positive, flexible, willing, motivated and quick to learn in a fast paced environment as job requirements will vary from day to day. Driver’s license with a good-standing driving record is required. Candidates will be required to drive a 12-passenger van, for which training will be provided. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Interest in the arts, operations and/or hospitality is preferred.
