I recently saw Graham Brown’s work Apple Falling, as part of the Shared MFA Dance Thesis Concert at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. It almost seemed as if a play was unfolding in front my eyes.

April 4, 2013 – College Park, MD – On April 26 at 8pm at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, vibist Stefon Harris, trumpeter Nicholas Payton and saxophonist David Sánchez present their Ninety Miles Project, a collaboration that brought leading Cuban and American jazz musicians together in Cuba over the span of a week to record music that both highlights and synthesizes their different cultures.
The University of Maryland is saddened by the news that alumna and world-celebrated puppeteer Jane Henson died Tuesday at her home in Connecticut at the age of 78 following a battle with cancer. Ms. Henson was the widow of puppeteer Jim Henson.
It’s every teacher’s goal – and every parent’s dream. Finding a way to get students more engaged in their schoolwork can be one of the most fundamental challenges of education, but recent studies are beginning to show the arts can be one of the most effective catalysts to achieve that end.

March 26, 2013 – College Park, MD – Acclaimed jazz pianist Brad Mehldau and singer/mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile perform as a duo in an evening of classical transcriptions, pop covers and original songs April 12 at 8pm at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.
Our ticket office will be closed from Saturday, March 16 to Sunday, March 24 for spring break. We will reopen at 11AM on Monday, March 25 and resume our normal operating hours of 11AM to 9PM, seven days a week.
Additionally, our administrative offices will be closed from Monday, March 18 to Wednesday, March 20.
Susie Farr, our Executive Director, has been awarded the Sue Hess Arts Advocate of the Year Award by Maryland Citizens for the Arts (MCA). The award was presented in person by its namesake, Sue Hess, at Maryland Arts Day in Annapolis on Wednesday, February 20.
