Dr. Laurie Frederik, associate professor in the University of Maryland School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies and a faculty member in the Department of Anthropology, has been appointed director of the Latin American Studies Center. In addition to her current teaching positions, Frederik will oversee the undergraduate certificate program and activities that give Maryland students access to campus resources about Latin America.

Gain insight into the process behind a musician’s training when students from the UMD School of Music cello and piano studios refine their repertoire and technique with guidance from cellist Peter Wiley and pianist Anna Polonsky.

Mexico City Woodwind Quintet: Fundamental Chamber Music Skills

Join the Mexico City Woodwind Quintet for a brief concert, followed by a discussion about chamber music skills and rehearsal strategies.

The quintet will address topics such as environment and organization effort in an ensemble, rules for rehearsals, the art of criticism, phrasing and dynamic concepts and new technologies for rehearsals.
