Don Rieder: Burnt I
Burnt I is a series of monologues, or tone poems, that are danced and gestured. Found objects are used to create the landscape and illustrate some of the action. A young boy, named Toc, speaks first. Toc watched his father, Yewlis, sail away. His father never returns. The boy grows up without him. In the second monologue, his mother Pen recounts her youth and her life with and without Yewlis.
Andrés Cárdenes, violin
Grammy-nominated artist Andrés Cárdenes parlays his myriad of talents into one of classical music’s most versatile careers. An intensely passionate and personally charismatic artist, Cuban-born Cárdenes has garnered international acclaim from critics and audiences alike for his compelling performances as a violinist, conductor, violist, chamber musician, concertmaster, and recording artist.
Since capturing Second Prize in the 1982 Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition in Moscow, Mr. Cárdenes has appeared as a soloist on four continents with over 100 orchestras.
Critical Response Workshop for the Heist
Clown Cabaret is creating a new work that will be shown on Friday, Jan. 22 at Joe’s Movement Emporium. Please join us for an opportunity to give your thoughts about the direction the piece is going. Your feedback will be incorporated into the final rehearsals during the Cabaret’s NextLOOK residency and can impact the piece as it nears completion.
The session will be facilitated by Jane Hirshberg from The Clarice, and will be based on Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process. What you think matters! Nothing is too small to notice!

Maryland Masti is an annual intercollegiate Garba/Raas competition held by the students at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Our goals include spreading awareness of the traditional folk dance cultures of the West Indian State of Gujarat, providing an outlet for current students to express their passion for such dance, and entertaining the guests at our show.
