Award-winning poet Claudia Rankine joins Sheri Parks for an intimate conversation about the role of public education, specifically art, in the making of American democracy. The event combines a poetry reading from Rankine's New York Times best-seller "Citizen: An American Lyric," and a discussion in which the two engage audience members on themes related to race, art and citizen making. Prinze George

Fresh off the heels of their first headlining tour and release of their first full-length album, Prinze George returns to their home turf of Prince George’s County for a NextNOW Fest performance.

With rich beats and an arresting voice that grounds their ethereal synths, Prinze George’s fresh yet familiar sound is created by Naomi Almquist and UMD alumni Kenny Grimm and Isabelle De Leon.

Addi Somekh: Balloon Music

Balloons aren’t just pretty – they sound pretty good, too. Using an instrument made of latex balloons and air, Addi Somekh renders deep, booming low frequency sounds and twangy sitar-like sounds in his signature Balloon Bass performance. It’s one you have to see to believe.
