TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). The TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences. This is a TEDx event, where “x” stands for “independently organized event”.

The complex interlocking rhythms of Balinese music on percussive instruments, the myriad expressions and the delicate motions of Balinese dance unite in the UMD Gamelan Saraswati.
In addition to the UMD Gamelan, the Balinese Gamelan of the Indonesian Embassy under the direction of Nyoman Suadin will perform and will be joined by Gamelan Gita Semara from Gettysburg College, under the direction of Brent Talbot.
Usually positioned at the back of the orchestra, the percussion section moves center stage to reveal the colorful, melodic potential of their instruments in this striking concert of contemporary music.
This concert showcases exceptional ensembles of the UMD School of Music’s chamber music program, as selected by faculty.
