What is Azure?
Azure is a unique performance experience, specifically for people with cognitive disabilities of all ages and walks of life, and those close to that community.
How is Azure different?
Azure is a joyful event, free of judgement and traditional concert hall norms, where the whole family can enjoy a high-quality concert experience. We create a sensory-friendly space where all can interact with the music in any way they feel - movement, vocalizations, and reactions of all types are welcome.
Join the artists for a conversation after the performance, moderated by Maryland Opera Studio director Craig Kier.
A mixed-bill evening of dance ranging from classical to contemporary dance, Fall Forward features performances from The Ngoma School Students. DDT presents three world premieres Rise, The Winds of Time, and The Happy Hour. Rise explores three men and the range of emotion they experience in the midst of uncertainty, fear, pain, and hope - like dust...They rise. The Winds of Time (Choreographed by UMD's Alvin Mayes) honors and gives a home-going to soul-singer, Aretha Franklin.
NextNOW Fest is tomorrow, and we’re excited to introduce you to our student curators who helped co-curate the fest this year! UMD students Jacob Wills, Emily Gorey and Hunter Jones worked closely with Megan Pagado Wells, Associate Director of the Artist Partner Program, and the numerous faculty, staff and students who make the fest happen.
Join MacArthur Fellow Tyshawn Sorey for a conversation with UMD faculty member Will Robin as they explore the role of improvisation in contemporary classical music and talk about how to create a "conduction," or "conducted improvisation."
On October 3rd, join Senator Bernie Sanders and Alex Burns, New York Times National Political Correspondent, for the latest edition of Get With The Times, our spirited live conversation series for college students.
With the mid-term elections just months away, Senator Sanders, the longest-serving independent in congressional history, takes the stage to discuss what's at stake for students in particular, and to amplify the critical importance of voting — regardless of which candidate you support.
