A new school year calls for a new you! Write down old bad habits or ways of thinking that you want to leave behind, then paste them on Artsphere’s 6-foot-tall sculpture made of cardboard and paper mache! Dance Exchange

Takoma Park’s own Dance Exchange brings awareness to the stories of sexual violence and abuse survivors. "A body, home" is a multimedia, intergenerational dance piece on sexual violence performed in the back of a moving truck. The performance asks audiences to consider: What does it take to move from past traumas? What needs to get packed and unpacked in the process? What is the world that we are moving towards?

JPEGMAFIA

Often, art is considered the safe space for dangerous ideas. JPEGMAFIA is a reminder that in a dangerous world, sometimes nowhere is safe. If trap music is the sound of the street, then JPEGMAFIA is trap’s subconscious; dark but not without a humor that makes things even more uncomfortable. His role as villain or satirist, hood protector or nihilist is intentionally hard to put one’s finger on. What more appropriate way to embody the frightening and confusing reality of America today?

Snail Mail

Indie rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Lindsey Jordan is on the brink of something huge. Her voice rises and falls with electricity throughout Lush, her debut album as Snail Mail, spinning with bold excitement and new beginnings at every turn. Jordan’s clear and powerful voice, acute sense of pacing and razor-sharp writing cut through the chaos and messiness of growing up: the passing trends, the awkward house parties, the sick-to-your-stomach crushes and the heart wrenching breakups.

Homie House Press: Zine Workshop

Homie House Press will guide participants through the creative process of zine making! A zine is a small, self-published booklet that gives you a chance to express your point of view, your thoughts and your experiences unfiltered to friends or even complete strangers! As active zine publishers, Homie House Press is comprised of photographers, book makers and educators holding space for and with QTPOC artists and other underrepresented communities.
