Screening of and Panel Discussion on "THE UNAFRAID"
Event Attributes
As part of the "Year of Immigration" series, the University of Maryland is proud to present the screening of "THE UNAFRAID," a feature length documentary that follows the personal lives of three DACA students in Georgia, a state that has banned them from attending their top state universities and disqualifies them from receiving in-state tuition at any other public college. Shot in an observational style over a period of four years, this film takes an intimate look at the lives of Alejandro, Silvia and Aldo as they navigate activism, pursuing their right to education, and fighting for the rights of their families and communities. This film shows us what it means to grow up both American and undocumented in the United States.
Opening remarks will be offered by President Wallace Loh
Following the screening, will be a panel discussion on the documentary and what it means to be a DACA student at the University of Maryland with special guest speakers to be announced.
Documentary time is 87 minutes.
This event is part of the Year of Immigration, which aims to transform dialogue into impact on urgent issues related to immigration, global migration and refugees, and to foster open conversation and greater connection with the University of Maryland’s large and diverse international community.
