ABOUT THE EVENT
Andrea Brown, music director
Born from the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jennifer Jolley’s Questions to Heaven evokes the cosmos in an expansive soundscape that brings outer space to the concert hall. What begins as a quiet and contemplative solo line quickly gains momentum, bursting with nebulous color as the piece takes off. This work is a testament to and celebration of humanities collective accomplishments, and our ability to find beauty and connectedness even in isolation.
This performance also features works by Jodie Blackshaw, Katahj Copley and more that take audience members through various stories. From the dance halls of a far-away, make-believe land to the history of Australia's Murray River, UMWE's December concert provides a rousing close to the end of the year.
PROGRAM
Guy Woolfenden: Illyrian Dances
Jennifer Jolley: Questions to Heaven
Katahj Copley: Serenade for Wind Nonet
Edward Elgar: Sursum Corda
Jodie Blackshaw: Twist
