ABOUT THE EVENT

Almanac is a colorful and chaotic depiction of one year. The eight movements evoke early spring, late spring, early summer, late summer and so on. It meditates on the interlocking natural cycles that animate and give shape to our lives, through shifting immersive soundscapes that evoke the chaos and patience of the natural world.

Listen to this piece the way you’d listen to the ocean, the wind through trees, the way you’d watch a sunset. Open your ears, detach from expectation and sink into the soundscape. The ensemble invites you to walk throughout the space and up to the performers to hear the detail in their sounds.

ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE

UMD-based glass trees ensemble is a flexible-instrumentation ensemble specializing in contemporary music and non-traditional concert experiences. This orchestra performance brings together students and staff from various divisions of the School of Music including voice/opera, music education, symphony orchestra and more.
