Tell Her This Project is a visual art, music and storytelling experience created by musician and 2021-22 NextLOOK artist Rochelle Rice. This live performance features vignettes of the Tell Her This podcast woven between songs that deepen our understanding and appreciation of the story and the storyteller. Also featured, is the premiere of Rochelle Rice’s Strong Like Water is a multidimensional series of portraits and sound.
"I wanted to explore a space that allows women to show up as themselves– with their stories and their innate wisdom– and just be. We message to women that they must be sexy and liberated, be body-positive, be a boss babe, funny, be crunchy and self-aware, or the wizened aunty with the perfect advice for the perfect moment. The truth is, most women I know are complex and nuanced and live beautiful and contradictory lives. They are messy and brilliant. They are subtle and complex, and they represent the authenticity and vulnerability that we all crave and are drawn to."

This event is part of NextLOOK. Established in 2014 through a partnership between The Clarice and Joe’s Movement Emporium, this program supports the development of new music, plays, dance and other experiences by performing artists based in DC, Maryland and Virginia who want to understand how their audience can become a creative partner. By removing logistical barriers and providing a sounding board for artists creating new work, NextLOOK invests in the regional DC/MD/VA arts ecology and creates an accessible, exploratory environment that connects intriguing artists with adventurous audiences. All performances are held at Joe’s Movement Emporium and are pay-what-you-wish.
