Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras (MCYO) of Strathmore is presenting their Winter Concert at The Clarice as part of their partnership with the UMD School of Music.
MCYO groups performing at this concert are:
- Future Stars
- Harp Ensemble
- Percussion Ensembles
- Flute Choirs
- Clarinet Choir
Future Stars is one of MCYO’s newest and youngest string ensembles, consisting of musicians in grades 2–4. MCYO’s small ensemble students specialize in their specific instruments, showcasing many different styles and instrument mastery. They will perform works specifically written for their ensembles, as well as arrangements and transcriptions of standard literature.
MCYO and the UMD School of Music have a great, long-standing relationship and are now officially partnered to give real-life experience and training to both MCYO and UMD student musicians. MCYO students benefit from UMD students sitting in rehearsal side-by-side, where they offer advice, support and make connections with the MCYO students during rehearsal. In turn, UMD student musicians have the opportunity to expand upon their pedagogical, coaching and rehearsal skills while working with younger students.
