What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life?
The world would split open. –Muriel Rukeyser, American poet, activist, and feminist
Survivor Love Letter is a movement for survivors of sexual assault and their allies to publicly celebrate their lives. Started by filmmaker and activist Tani Ikeda in 2012 on the anniversary of her rape, #SurvivorLoveLetter has rippled out to become a hashtag, a letter writing campaign, and a viral social movement. In this workshop, facilitated by Tani, you will have an opportunity to tell your story in the form of a poem, a personal monologue, a letter to yourself, a song, or whatever comes to mind. This workshop is being presented in connection with "A body, home," which is a multimedia, intergenerational dance piece on sexual violence performed in the back of a moving truck. Performances of the dance will be part of NextNOW Fest on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14, and will incorporate excerpts of letters written during this workshop.
