Wolf Trap Opera
Event Attributes
In our continuing celebration of Leonard Bernstein at 100, James Judd conducts Bernstein's Songfest which was written as a tribute to the 1976 American Bicentennial and premiered in Washington, DC. Combining poetry from the likes of Frank O'Hara, Walt Whitman, Langston Hughes, and Gertrude Stein, the work draws a picture of America's past as seen through the eyes of an artist.
The program also includes George Gershwin's iconic An American in Paris heard in a new edition which corrects and restores many of Gershwin's original musical intentions.
Program:
Aaron Copland: An Outdoor Overture
George Gershwin: An American in Paris
Leonard Bernstein: Songfest
The orchestra is joined onstage by members of the internationally renowned Wolf Trap Opera as part of their UNTRAPPED series, which brings the thrill of live vocal music to new places and unexpected spaces such as The Clarice.
