Cellist Peter Wiley is joined by pianist Anna Polonsky in a concert of the complete works for cello and piano by Beethoven.
Wiley enjoys a prolific career as a performer and teacher. He joined the Pittsburgh Symphony in 1974, and was appointed principal cellist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra the following year. From 1987 through 1998, Wiley was cellist of the Beaux Arts Trio. In 2001, he succeeded his mentor, David Soyer, as cellist of the Guarneri Quartet. He is a 2014/15 Artist-in-Residence in the School of Music.
The Music in Mind series celebrates the role of music in our culture and our lives, explores sources of inspiration and points of intersection in musical traditions, and presents music in a context that encourages reflection and discovery. Proceeds from Music in Mind concerts benefit the UMD School of Music’s undergraduate scholarship fund.
Peter Wiley’s recitals and masterclass are made possible, in part, by the generous support of the Steppel family, in memory of Barbara K. Steppel.
