Program Notes:
UMSO performs Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, which premiered nine days before the composer’s death and was his last completed symphony.
Appropriately called “Pathetique,” Symphony No. 6 is tense and brooding, and addresses the power of fate in life and death.
Also on the program: Emily Robinson, the second-prize winner of the 2012 UMSO Concerto Competition, joins the orchestra to perform Copland’s Concerto for Clarinet.
