Music Librarian Fellowship

Position Summary

The Music Librarian Fellowship at the National Orchestral Institute + Festival (NOI+F) is designed to provide experience and training to emerging library professionals already possessing some prior library experience. The Fellow will work under the Principal Librarian to assist with the general daily operations of an orchestra library. The Fellow will also work with staff at the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library on archival projects related to the National Orchestral Institute collection.

The Music Librarian Fellow will receive mentorship from the Principal Librarian and other  professional librarians to aid in their career development. 

 

Primary Duties

The Music Librarian Fellow will assist with the preparation of professional music materials for rehearsal and performance, which includes: marking and bowing parts in consultation with the Principal Librarian; distributing music for performance and collecting music after concerts; preparing practice parts; scanning and repairing music; maintaining and updating the library inventory; overseeing bowing assistants and managing their work hours; generally being onsite for rehearsal duty and concert duty; and other duties as assigned. There is potential to serve as the sole onsite librarian for concerts and rehearsals. The fellow will also be responsible for completing archival work in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library relating to the NOI+F archive.

Requirements

Some previous orchestral library experience is required. Must be motivated, work well in a fast-paced environment, and be able to meet deadlines. Knowledge of music notation software is preferred, but not required. Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 30lbs, climb stairs, and retrieve music from overhead shelves. Must have good working knowledge of basic office productivity software.

Duration

The Music Librarian Fellow should expect to begin working remotely on music preparation in early-May 2025 and arrive at the festival as early as can be negotiated, but no later than May 26, 2025. The fellowship ends on July 2, 2025.

Compensation

$2500.00 split between two bi-weekly payments. Dormitory housing and a meal plan will be provided.
