ABOUT THE EVENT

Featuring provocative choreography by M.F.A. Dance students, this concert is a collection of eclectic new works, serving as an unguarded exploration of these diverse artists' talents and interests.

Mother in the Wild: A Puppetry Operetta, written and directed by Miele Murray

Monistheina, a beautiful expecting mother, and her young daughter, Sencorok, are driven from their home after a plague falls over the Swamp of Vekettorav. Along their way, they encounter the aid of Xaichektin, a deformed young woman who is known by all as the ‘Queen of the Swamp’. Featuring original puppetry, music, and dance, we invite audiences to immerse themselves in this fantastical experience.

Accepting the Sun by Kevin Clark, in collaboration with Char Cowan, Beatriz Leite, Tawi Mekonnen, Maddie Praisner, Emma Vanderlinde and Raquel Ziolkowski

Accepting the Sun is a treatise on the pain of brightness, a non-linear exploration on the sting of both holding onto and releasing the past. Originally built in part in 2020 by Clark, it explores the journey of what it takes to move on; silence when constantly swimming in sound, touch after long isolation, the sun after bouts of darkness, the release of all hope of a better past. Accepting the Sun explores not the moment of coming back into glory and the beautiful drama of catharsis, but the grungy, tenuous, complicated process of learning to welcome the sun back into our lives, and the quirky, circuitous paths we take to return the known from the territory of the unknown.
