ABOUT THE EVENT

Join us for a special conversation with renowned Iranian-American composer Reza Vali, who will discuss the importance of Iranian musical traditions in his compositions. Joined by violist Kimia Hesabi, the discussion will explore how a duality of cultural fluency can enrich music, art and our lives in today’s rapidly changing world. This pre-concert talk will be followed by Sayeh-Roshan (Chiaroscuro), a concert centered around three new works for double bass and piano by Iranian diasporic composers, and which features one of Vali’s most recent compositions..

FUNDING

This performance is supported in part by the Maryland State Arts Council and The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. The event is presented in partnership with the UMD Roshan Institute for Persian Studies.
